Journey to Agincourt Ribbon Reef

This Reef is 230km north of Cairns and it takes 3 hours to go there. But it’s really an adventure to dive in the deep blue water and you can see lots of fish.
Early at 5:30 o’clock we had get up to catch the bus to Port Douglas. Still a little tired, we enjoyed the journey including a wonderful sunrise over the sea. After on and a half hour we arrived in Port Douglas at 8:00 o’clock. However, a look at the sky let me suspect, that the weather would change to a small storm. Well, our ship left the port at 8:30 o’clock.
First we saw a few old fishing boats, then the beautiful low paradise Island and, after 1 hour,
Dolphins for 1 minute. It’s true only 1 minute. Finally we reached our target, the Agincourt Ribbon Reef, after a 2 hour journey from Port Douglas. As suspect, the weather changed from sunshine to completely cloudy. Of course we were a little disappointed. Nevertheless we put on our wetsuits and jumped into the water with great anticipation. It was really worth taking the trouble to go on a far away outer reef, because the coral was more than beautiful. Kate took many pictures and we had a great time on this first place. After 1 hour our ship left the first point and we went to the second place for diving.
Meanwhile the weather changed to a small storm and the waves became quite big. Therefore we had to dive rather fast under water in order to wait for the other dive buddies, because it’s much easier to wait under water than in the waves. And this dive became simply amazing!
We saw schools of big fish, turtles and even two sharks. After 45 minutes the oxygen in our tanks started to empty and we had to surface. We were ecstatic to see that the sharks were in our pictures. Well, the third and last place was waiting for us. Also this place was fascinating. Here, we saw the huge Napelonfish, good 2.00m, other amazing fish and again beautiful coral in every colour of the rainbow.
Arrived in Port Douglas at 6:00 o’clock we get on the bus and drove back to Cairns.
